Ramanathaswamy Temple

Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva located on Rameswaram island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, where Nayanars (Saivite saints), Appar, Sundarar and Tirugnana Sambandar, have glorified the temple with their songs. The temple was expanded during the 12th century by the Pandya Dynasty, and its principal shrine’s sanctum was renovated by Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan, monarchs of the Jaffna kingdom. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India. It was built by King Muthuramalinga Sethupathiy. The temple, located in Rameswaram, is considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas.

Kothandaramaswamy Temple

The Kothandaramaswamy Temple at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu is a shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity Rama. The temple is Classified one among the 108 Abhimana Kshethram of Vaishnavate tradition. Located at a distance of 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Rameswaram, it forms the southernmost tip of the island. The temple is the only historical structure to survive the 1964 cyclone that washed away Dhanushkodi. The temple has the deities of Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, Hanuman and Vibhishana. The temple is surrounded by sea and remains a tourist attraction. It is easily accessible from Rameswaram. The temple is believed to be the place where Vibhishana, the younger brother of Ravana, asked Rama and his vanara army for refuge.

Dhanushkodi

Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island of the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is south-east of Pamban and is about 24 kilometres (15 mi) west of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The town was destroyed during the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone and remains uninhabited in the aftermath. Although devoid of inhabitants, Dhanushkodi remains a tourist attraction due to its historical and mythological relevance. The National Highway completed the 9.5-km-long road – 5 km from Mukuntharayar Chathiram to Dhanushkodi and 4.5 km from Dhanushkodi to Arichamunai.

Ramar Patham

Ramarpatham, an amazing location, is a hillock situated about 3 kms from the temple of Rameswaram. The hillock provides an amazing view of the entire Rameswaram Island and also has an imprint of Lord Rama's feet on a chakra. This is the highest altitude of rameswaram as per the old historical representations.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial

The "Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam National Memorial" is a mausoleum in memory of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam (1931–2015), the 11th President of India (2002-2007), located in his home town, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The memorial was designed and constructed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a tribute to Kalam and to display the cultural heritage and ethnic diversity of India. It was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2017. A symbol of national integration, the memorial is an amalgamation of Mughal and Indian architecture.

Kunthukal, Vivekananda Memorial Hall

Kunthukal beach is located in a small fishing village named Kunthukal, which is nearly about 12 km from the Rameswaram. The crystal clear blue sea water with moderate tides makes this beach awesome.Vivekananda Memorial Hall is located on the shores of Kunthukal Beach near Pamban. The Memorial was built to commemorate the return of Swami Vivekananda to India on January 26, 1897 after his participation in ‘The Parliament of World Religions’ held in Chicago.

Ariyaman Beach/ Boating

This calm beach also has umpteen choices of sports, giving tourists entertaining ways to spend their time. There is a children’s park at the beach which ample of spaces and rides for kids to play. There is also a watch tower located here, offering mesmerizing view of the vast ocean and the surrounding areas. There are other facilities as well such as swimming pool, boating facility and thundershower. Various kinds of watersports such as windsurfing, water scooter, parasailing where you can go about 200 meters above while being controlled by a moving boat, are also offered at this beach. There is also an aquariums and museum located quite nearby. If time permits tourists can spend a few moments there as well.

Abdul Kalam House

This humble abode in Rameswaram’s Mosque street is the place where one of India’s greatest presidents spent his early days. He lived with his parents, Jainulabdeen and Ashiamma and his brother. Abdul Kalam’s childhood house was converted into a Museum in 2011. The house features photographs depicting Abdul Kalam’s childhood and younger years. There’s a lot of information on the former president, and the home also features awards, medals, and other mementos awarded to him throughout his lifetime. The house’s ground floor features a gift shop where people can buy souvenirs. The museum is situated on the first floor, and the second floor is an art gallery. In this house, Abdul Kalam’s elder brother APJM. Maraikayar stays with his family.

Pamban Bridge

Pamban Bridge is a railway bridge that connects the town of Mandapam in mainland India with Rameswaram on Pamban Island. Opened on 24 February 1914, it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers but has a double-leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Tamil Nadu's island of Rameswaram to the mainland India. On 23 December 2022, the bascule of this bridge was damaged due to extreme corrosion and so the sensors gave continuous warning signal which suspended transportation on the bridge permanently. The last train which officially ran on this bridge was Train no. 07695 Secunderabad - Rameswaram Special Express, which had completed its commercial journey the previous day. In February 2023, the Southern Railway announced that the train traffic to Rameshwaram through Pamban bridge had been completely stopped and would be restored through the new Pamban bridge after its completion.

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple

Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple, the five-faced Hanuman Temple, is situated at a distance of 2 km from Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is said that Lord had revealed his five faces here, hence the idol of Hanuman is depicted with five faces which are of Lord Hanuman in the middle along with faces of Lord Narasimha, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Garuda and Lord Hayagriva on the sides. The statue has been covered with senthooram by saints. In 1964, after the cyclone in Dhanuskhodi, the idols of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was brought to this temple and placed here. Also known as Panchamukha Anjaneya, Panchamukha Hanuman Temple is visited by almost every devotees who come for a Rameshwaram Tour.

Navagraha Temple, Devipattinam

Navapashanam temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Navagrahas, the nine planetary deities, located in Devipattinam, the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a Hindu pilgrimage centre located in the Bay of Bengal. As per Hindu legend, the nine mud images of the planetary deities, have been believed to have built by Rama, an avatar of Vishnu. The temple is a famous pilgrimage centre in the region where pilgrims perform rites for their forefathers. It is also a part of popular tourist circuit in the region along with the Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram and Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple at Thiruppullani. The temple was originally maintained and administered by the Ramanathapuram Samasthanam Devasthanam under the Hereditary Trustee of the Queen of Ramanathapuram until now and controlled by the Department of HR & CE, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple, Thiruppulani

The Adi Jagannatha Temple is a South Indian Hindu temple in Thiruppullani, a village in the outskirts of Ramanathapuram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It is believed that Rama used grass ('pul' in Tamil as a pillow (thalai annai in Tamil) to sleep and hence the village attained the name Thiruppullani. Constructed in the Cholan style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Alvar saints from the 6th–9th centuries CE. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Adi Jagannatha and his consort Lakshmi as Padmasini. The temple is believed to have been built during the late 8th century CE, with later contributions from Medieval Cholas, later Pandyas, Madurai Nayak kings, Sethupathi Palayam of Ramnad. As per Hindu legend, Rama is believed to have done penance to worship the god of ocean to seek way to Lanka in grass, giving the name Dharbasayanam to the place.

Uthirakosamangai Temple

Uthirakosamangai, also known as Mangalanatha Swamy temple, is a Shiva temple situated near Ramanathapuram in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. The temple has been in bloom for 3000 years ago. Uthirakosamangai temple is located on an area of about 20 acres. The temple is considered sacred along the lines of Ramanathapuram, Sethu Madhava Theertham and Lakshmana Theertham. The temple is a prominent tourist destination of Ramanathapuram district. The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Mangalanathar, Mangalambigai and Natarajar being the most prominent. The temple houses a 6 ft (1.8 m) tall ancient maragatha Nataraja idol carved out of emerald, being the one of its kind. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and six yearly festivals on its calendar. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
